JAMB to Sanction 180 Candidates for Mock Exam Malpractice – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will impose strict sanctions on 180 candidates who attempted to cheat during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock test.
This revelation came from Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB’s Registrar, during a monitoring exercise at a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in Bwari, Abuja.
Prof. Oloyede explained that these candidates were caught after paying money to a decoy website set up by JAMB to catch those trying to undermine the exam’s credibility.
“We know about rogue websites asking people to pay for supposed questions.
So, we created our own fake site, and by this morning, 180 candidates had already paid.
That’s a clear violation, and we will cancel their results both UTME and Direct Entry,” he said.
The mock exam, held as a preparation for the main UTME, wasn’t just a test for candidates.
It also helped JAMB check its own readiness and identify new threats.
“As students are getting wiser, we are also getting better.
We’re trying new strategies, and the mock helps us learn and adjust before the main exam,” Prof. Oloyede noted.
He added that the results of the mock exam will be released on Friday after verifying submissions from different batches.
